Oct. 9-25, Curtain: Fridays/Saturdays 8 p.m.; Sundays 3 p.m.
UAA Mainstage Theatre, Fine Arts Building

Sir Robert Falcon Scott's attempt to beat Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen to the South Pole in 1912 was doomed for many reasons: his refusal to use sled dogs, horribly cold summer weather, pride and arrogance, bad luck. This potent theatrical hallucination of Scott's final moments is a moving and thoughtful look at the price of discovery paid by all true explorers and the people who love them. Terra Nova will be presented in conjunction with the College of Arts & Sciences and UAA's Geology Department as a tribute to the sciences and as a dedication to UAA's new ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building.
