Brian Schmidt won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011. He is a graduate of Anchorage’s Bartlett High School, where he says he got a very good education. He earned his doctorate at Harvard by measuring how fast the universe is expanding.

He was in Anchorage to speak and participate in the American Astronomical Society that held its 220th conference in Anchorage in June 2012, hosted locally by UAA’s Department of Physics and Astronomy,
