Tuesday, Nov. 17, 6-8 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore Joan Kane is Inupiaq Eskimo, with family from King Island and Mary’s Igloo, Alaska. With the assistance of a 2007 Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Award, Kane completed her first book of poetry, The Cormorant Hunter’s Wife, which she will share with us. Joan Kane's past achievements include being a former Harvard National Scholar and a recipient of a Columbia University Writing Fellowship. She received the John Haines Award from Ice Floe Press in 2004 and was an Academy of American Poets semi-finalist for the Walt Whitman Award in 2006.
