Alaska Airlines Center topped out

The final steel beam of the Alaska Airlines Center was set in place with fanfare on Friday, May 10. With its "bones" in place, construction will continue on schedule for a grand opening in fall 2014. More of the story at APRN.

2,200 new grads in '12–'13

Hundreds of UAA students are gearing up for finals next week with their eyes on the prize: graduation on Sunday, May 5, when many of the approximately 2,200 new grads for 2012–2013 will don caps and gowns for the big event.

Concert Board

UAA’s Concert Board knocked it out of the park again with a sold-out show for now national phenomenon Macklemore & Lewis last Friday, March 29, at the Egan Center. Funded by a student-proposed fee back in 1991, the Concert Board continues to bring A-list entertainment to Anchorage for students (at reduced cost) and the community. More events.

UAA is going green!

Last year, during fall semester, UAA's USUAA student government raised $34,000 in "green fees," which will be used to support student sustainability projects and research. This is just another way UAA's students are creating an eco-friendly campus for the community. Learn more about the project here.

UAA “Dental Days”

Every year UAA’s School of Allied Health hosts “Dental Days,” a lottery program providing free dental care to individuals on a limited income or with no dental insurance. The nationally recognized Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference will be held June 14–18, 2013, at the Land’s End Resort in Homer, Alaska. The conference features workshops, readings and panel presentations in fiction, poetry, nonfiction and the business of writing. “Wandering Poet” Naomi Shihab Nye is this year’s keynote speaker.
