October 14, 2016

Tuesday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m.
Fine Arts Building, Room 150

Noted Alaska author Seth Kantner will give the UAA/APU Books of the Year keynote lecture, Negotiating Identity in Alaska.

Building upon the theme of this year’s books (Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford and The Color of Water by James McBride), Kantner will present his unique perspective on how people in Alaska must adapt to age, fate and circumstances to become individuals in the Last Frontier.

Seth Kantner is a commercial fishermen, writer and wildlife photographer who was born and raised in Northern Alaska. His books include Ordinary Wolves, Shopping for a Porcupine (a 2009–10 Books of the Year selection), Pup and Pokey (his first children’s book) and Swallowed by the Great Land, a collection of essays exploring the duality in Seth’s own life and the village and community he inhabits.
