Thursday, April 30, 7 p.m.
Performing Arts Center, Discovery Theatre (621 W. 6th Ave.)
The internationally recognized UAA Seawolf Debate Program takes on top-ranked Oxford for an intense look at our obligation to support the arts–or not. Squaring off over the motion “Classical music deserves no support beyond what the market will provide,” the debaters will advocate for and against public funding for the arts.
Featuring three celebrity judges: The Washington Post‘s noted critic Anne Midgette, balladeer “Hobo Jim” Varsos and best-selling cellist Zuill Bailey. Each judge will render their own verdict on who won the debate, but the ultimate decision is up to the audience, who will be able to vote by cell phone.
Join us to watch two of the world’s top 20 debate programs in this exhibition debate.
Tickets start at $20 and are available now at CenterTix.net. Proceeds benefit the Seawolf Debate Program.
Debate sponsored by KLEF 98.1–FM.
